Hi, we are delighted you are keeping up with our, "What Does This Even Mean?" series! God's Love is our fifth word—or phrase—we are diving into. How often do we see or hear the phrase, "God is Love"? Is He? And are we truly comprehending His Love by living mediocre? Or by not surrendering to it every second of our lives?
I think to rightfully understand God's Love, we must not ask the question, "What is God's Love?" And instead ask, "Who is God's Love?" Our hearts need to understand the difference...
"In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins." 1 John 4:9-10
So, who is God's Love? Jesus. I know what some of you may be thinking... The tricky, tangled, yet to the point image of the trinity. Go with me here on a simplified lesson. Given God is the creator of all things, He is all things. For example, if He gives wisdom, He is wisdom. If He offers love, He is love. Here's where our minds begin to wander: Jesus is the image of the invisible God. He is God in the flesh. Therefore, He is God's Love.
The beauty in this will cause you to never want to look away from the Master. This supernatural love will move you from mediocre to full surrender. It means we have been given access to the love and mercy of God through Jesus. The acceptance of Jesus is the only way out of His wrath: an eternity separated from Love.
Oh, friend, it is much more than that in the now. His Love means His Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control. When we accept Jesus Christ and follow in His pursuit, this internal decision is externally contagious.
"Beloved, let us love on another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love." 1 John 4:7-8
Without knowing God, our love is partial. Ouch, did I overstep? I mean to in an eternal light. Friend, our love can be true, real, and alive. However, we must humbly accept the Love already given to us. Then, love full of peace and grace and mercy will begin sweeping the tension of life.
Oh, how sweet it is to be His beloved.
I challenge you to read 1 John 4 in its entirety. Have you accepted the Love of God, Jesus Christ? How can you prayerfully ask God to love through you? Let us know in the comments!
