We are beginning a new series of blog posts titled, "What Does This Even Mean?" There are many words—long and fancy words—surrounding Christian culture that may cause blank stares. We will spend the next year digging into twelve specifically!
Romans 8:1-2, There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.
Our first word is freedom. We hear and say this word often, but do we truly understand what we are freed from? Or what this freedom entails? Let's unpack it together...
Since the fall of man we have been bonded to our flesh—the instinct to disobey God. This tendency has turned into our master, if you will. Now, we are bonded to the desire to sin and unable to pay our freedom alone.
Romans 8:3, For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,
We needed a Savior. The Author of our freedom—Jesus Christ—came and paid the price of our slavery by becoming a slave Himself. His divine perfection was sufficient for our totality of offenses. And we were set free.
Free to have a relationship with God. Free to grace, salvation, and mercy. Free from an eternity separated from our Creator.
John 8:36, So if the Son sets you free then you are free indeed.
We hope this made the word, freedom, come to life! This post barely hints at the true beauty of this reality as Christ followers. We encourage you to stand in freedom knowing God has delighted in you!
What has God freed you from? Let us know in the comments below!

I never really took the time to understand what all being a child of the king actually freed me from and that what I was now free to do!!! Being free of the fear of being separated from our God the father and his son Jesus is truly what being "FREE" is all about!!! Don't get me wrong, I still fear my God, but I am no longer afraid of not being with him for eternity. That is such a comforting thought. Thank you ladies for helping us realize what true freedom is all about. God Bless you!!!
